NuShake Roofing has protected Bay Area homes since 1976. Doug Heath founded the company that year — a straightforward roofing contractor who built a clean reputation across the East Bay and northern Central Valley. For nearly five decades, NuShake served homeowners from Ripon to Pleasanton.
In 2024, the Espindola family acquired NuShake. They brought the same operational standards that made Econo Roofing the Central Valley's most decorated contractor. In 2025, Brian Espindola took it one step further: he earned his own California C-39 roofing license and took over as NuShake's named owner-operator.
Brian Espindola's story
Brian did not start in the office. He started on a tear-off crew at 18 — physically the hardest job on any roofing job site. He learned what goes wrong with roofs from the bottom up.
By 20 he was leading a crew. By 21 he had moved into sales, becoming Econo Roofing's lead salesman. At 23, he studied for and earned his own California C-39 contractor license. The same year, he took over NuShake Roofing as its licensed owner-operator.
That arc — tear-off to owner in five years — is rare. Most roofing owners either inherit a business or move in from outside the trade. Brian held every role on a crew before stepping into ownership. When he quotes your roof, he has personally done your job.

Doug Heath and the 1976 foundation
Doug Heath founded NuShake Roofing in 1976. He built the company as a straightforward operation — honest pricing, quality work, and a crew that showed up on time. That reputation held for nearly 50 years across the Bay Area and northern Central Valley. When the Espindola family acquired NuShake in 2024, they inherited a clean legacy with no baggage.
The Espindola family acquisition
Mario Espindola founded Econo Roofing in 1996. Over three decades, he built it into the Central Valley's most certified roofing contractor. When the opportunity came to acquire NuShake in 2024, the family moved. They saw it as a natural extension into the Bay Area. The Espindola name was not yet known there, but the operational playbook was already proven.
Brian was the right fit for Bay Area ownership. He had grown up in the business and done every job on a crew. He earned his license through study and work, not by inheriting it. In 2025, he became NuShake's licensed operating contractor under CSLB #1142280.
Family of brands
NuShake is the Bay Area member of the Espindola family of roofers. Each brand serves a distinct region with its own owner-operator and local focus:
- Econo Roofing — Mario Espindola's flagship since 1996. Serves the Central Valley from Modesto through Fresno. The family's premium-tier brand with OC Platinum Preferred certification.
- DeHart Roofing — A Stanislaus County institution since 1975. Acquired by the Espindola family in 2026. Serves Turlock, Modesto, Ceres, and the Modesto–Livingston corridor.
- NuShake Roofing — Bay Area operations since 1976. Brian Espindola's company since 2025. Serves Ripon, Stockton, Tracy, Manteca, Pleasanton, Livermore, and 18 more Bay Area and northern Central Valley cities.
